To all of you who own consoles.

I've mostly been a PC gamer before i got my 360. Discs always run fine, i have never noticed a scratch on my discs.

I had a SNES and N64, they didn't use discs. With my 360 however:

I bought my 360 last christmas. After a few months, i noticed very bad scratches on brand new discs. Obviously this was the 360s fault and i had heard about the faulty DVD drives. I sent mine in and they sent it back with a refurbished drive.

I played a brand new game this weekend. 20 hours logged or so. I see a small, light circular scratch in the middle. The scratch is not connected, so not a complete circle. Also a few very very small, light hard to see unless you bring it up to the light scratches (vertical).

Is this still the DVD drive problem? Or are these scratches natural? I have never owned a PS2 or XBOX before, so am not experienced with these game discs. My friends say its natural to have some scratches on your disc with use. But i do not want to keep playing this disc if it keeps on accumulating scratches so in a few months it will be unplayable.

The scratches are small, light, and do not interfere with game play. But i am worried with time, they will. My 360 warranty runs out in a few months, and if it is the 360's fault, i want to send it in now. If it is not its fault, then i will keep playing it. Any thoughts on this?

if you moved your 360 even just a few cm it will put a scrach in your disk i dont know if the xbox had the same problem because i never wanted to stand it up on its side in the middle of game play. i have 1-2 small scratches on my halo 3 disk but i think that was from me moving my 360 with the game inside it even tho the power was off. and yes some devices do put scratches in disk even if they arnt messed with...

yea and ive seen a 360 destroy a cd by moving the xbox

the original 360's were screwed up and caused alot of damage to the disks. if youve had it replaced then i would asume you hve had replacement one which may or may not be better, i dunno. but some consoles do scratch your disks wether it be from over use or moving the console with the cd inside. i would advise not leaving the disk in whilst not playing, put it back in its case after use.

but ive only ever had 1 game get scratched so bad by the console that it hasnt worked afterwards, and that was after having the game for over 2 years and playing it a couple of hours each day (with the PS2).

circular scrathes aint to bad, take longer to affect the game so you dont have a problem in the short run. long term it will begin to deteorate with use but thats natural with everything. just aslong as you dont get scratches going from the inside straight to the outside then your fine :)

your local Gamestop, EBGames, Babbages, they sell a wonderful little product known as disc skins, they are little plastic covers that slide over CD, Games, and all other sorts of disks and it protects them

little expensive but i think worth it in the long run

I've heard the disc skins scratch easy and don't work well with 360's.

I'll keep playing the disc for another month and see how the disc is then. If it gets much worse, i'll ship the 360 before the warranty runs out by the end of the year. If it isnt too bad, i'll keep it. I mean, on my faulty 360, playing a game 20-30 hours, there would be so many little scratches or gashes, the disc would freeze in game every 5 minutes. Its happened to GRAW, GoW, and Oblivion. I have managed to return Oblivion, GRAW freezes on mission load, and Gears has a 33% change of loading when i put in the disc. So obviously my 360 is not as bad as my original one. But how much better, we shall see.

My 360 doesn't scratch my disks....so you might want to send it back.

My stepbrother had to go through 3 360s because of the scratched disk problem.

i can't understand how is it possible for the reader to cause scratches, the DVD it lifted a few milimeters and doesn't touch anything when its spinning...

Well due to poor manufacturing most PS2's crapped out after 2 years. But then again thats the way most systems are after long periods of usage.

well i know that my PS2 system is working excellent. It's just that some of the games broke too early.

Crimson Shadow

My PS2 is horrible....the lens is a piece of junk. Takes nearly 2-3 minutes for it to read the game when first turned on. After that it runs fine though.

My PS2 ive had for like 3 years. its been knocked off of tables, thrown out a window, tea spilt on it and ive taken it apart several times and it still works fine. oh and i lost afew of the screws and some of the plastic covering for it too :)

So Far Pup is on his second 360. I think they were in too much of a rush to get it out and didn't research it as they should have. I know he has a friend that has gone thru 4 just to get a good one.

Yeah i am waiting until the bugs are worked out of all of these new systems. PS3 may not have any problems as of yet but i think something as bad as the red ring of death or the disk destroying thing will show up in the PS3.

Well, after i expressed my outrage to the Microsoft customer service person (some guy who couldn't speak english), i will send my 360 in, again.

1 month without Halo 3? Sigh.

Satan666
10-11-2007, 02:31
Well despite K959 and my brother having Halo 3, I still have not even watched anyone play it let alone played myself. Plus i can live off Halo 2 for a little bit longer.

Thats why I hate calling service lines. No matter what company you are calling noone can speak or understand english. Takes over 5 hours to explain to them what the problem is....then they have to transfer you to another person who you have to explain for 3 hours.

phone them and the 1st thing you should say is "can you transfer me to a person who has english as there 1st language please" works most the time.

it works most the time.

dunno what its like over in america but we used to constantly gt phone calls about people trying to sel us contract phones. all of them are asian and have very poor english. they constantly go on and on and on about these mobiles they trying to sell to you.

neways, after awile we got really pissed with it and started to just mess them around. when they phoned up we would do thinks like:

copy what they say (childish but makes them hang up)
start shouting down the phone to them screaming "are you ****ing my wife"
try selling them somethign back (very funny, espically when you say your selling viagra and insult his manhood)
agree to it and when they phone back tell them to get screwed
or even give them a really really hard question and say if you answer this question i shall buy you phone

Crimson Shadow

Or my personal favorite..."Can I have your phone number, I'm busy and need to call back later." They always hang up.

I would think Just yell back extremely loud and pretend you are deaf would work. but the tell them you are busy and you want their number to call back later is my personal favorite.

Crimson Shadow

If you were deaf....how would you know the phone was ringing ;)

Warl0rd
10-12-2007, 10:43
vibration or lights... how do you think?!

PS: ignoring the fact that they wouldn't be able to listen what ppl were saying making the use of a phone useless :P

Satan666
10-12-2007, 13:08
If you were deaf....how would you know the phone was ringing ;)

well yes there are lights and also they will use different tones that aren't as high pitched sometimes. Either way it doesn't need to make sense, it just has to work.

think the better question is why would a deaf person have a phone? lol. unless it was a video phone and the other person had que cards :)

Satan666
10-14-2007, 04:23
well necessarily most "deaf" people aren't fully deaf and if they are hard of hearing then they might have a hearing aid or something of the sort. In some cases they will have a family member or a RN helping them.

10-14-2007, 18:05
Or you could just do it the easy way: hang up when they are halfway through their first sentence. They don't call back ;)

its moving the 360 it happend to my buddy the first day he got halo 3 i opened the door in the middle of gameplay and hit the chair the 360 was on, and the disk stoped working 30 mins later, they said it was due from moving it

and @ ps2 bashers ive had mine since it came out and it still works perfectly

Satan666

I don't think I'll ever get rid of my PS2 or i don't think it will ever break. PS2s were ment to last, just like my NES, SNES, Game Boy/color/SP/DS, N64, and X-Box.

yeh the pocket was the 1st one i got, was obsesed with tetris :)

@ xaviour, your callers must be crap. ours constantly ring back over and over again. had the same guy ring me 3 times in one day and each time i was being hugely abusive to him.

Well it's not that i forgot about it, i just never had one. I mean i think its a little crazy that i have 3 "systems" that i can play my game boy games on. (technically 4 if you count Super Gameboy on SNES)
