The Belgian priest called Father Damiaan, elected Greatest Belgian of all time, will be declared Saint later this year (11oct, Rome).
Father Damiaan was born in the village of Tremelo, about 15km from where I live. He became a priest, and when his brother turned ill, he took over his job at Molokai, looking after the lepres. Eventually, he got the disease and died.
Friends of mine who live in Tremelo are proud as hell ... lol good for them
The mayor of Tremelo has invited President Obama to his town for festivities regarding Father Damiaan scheduled 4 october 2009. Why did he do that? (quote) "Because Hawaii is special for Obama and it was special for Damiaan as well, as he has lived there and died there."
