I spoke with a friend of his tonight and he is apparently in the hospital. He was assaulted and then attempted to hurt himself the other day. His friend told me he is not in very good shape. I have his number in the hospital if anyone wants it, I will share it with you.

Getting attacked in jail and then trying to kill himself...yea he sure had that coming. You're a fukced up kid Hoebawt. I don't even know him but you say you do yet you're not supportive at all for him and are mocking him.

He is in jail until trial because his family can't come up with the $100k for bail.
Also Hoebawt you don't know the situation so for you to make it seem that he is guilty without a trial or anything and finding that Artos being beaten and then trying to commit suicide is just dandy then you need your head checked you sicko.

100k for bail for this type of crime seems very excessive under these circumstances.. So either there is more to this then we know or they are really throwing the book at him and using him as an example...
Jail is not a fun place to be. And if he was charged with this crime, the other inmates will eat him alive. They are not kind to people who are in jail for anything to do with a child.
Sadly trying to take his own life will work against him at the trial. It will show that he is guilty and ashamed.. I hope that if in fact he is truly innocent, his court appointed attorney will work hard to clear his name.. His family should also check into pro bono work.. Lot's of lawyers out there are mandated to do a certain amount of these kinds of cases..
I wish him and his family luck and i hope it all turns out ok.

the amount of the bail is set on various reasons. Flight risk, statue of the crime, economic value (which if the crime is great this is not considered)
My guess is there is more to this... But either way i wish him and his family luck.
Bail is set on a few issues, flight risk, type of crime, and i if they want to make it difficult for you to run, they can jack it up.

no necessarily, it could be argued that he is mentally unstable and that he wasnt well when the incident happened. try to get out of going to prison and get sent to a hospital. TBH with his crime that would be alot better for him because hes likely to get regular beatings, abuse or possibly killed in prison depending on where he goes.

A Lawrence County grand jury has brought seven rape charges and four child pornography charges against a 22-year-old Chicago man.
The indictment. filed late Thursday. accuses Juan Miguel Otero of raping a girl between the ages of 13 and 16 in August and again earlier this month in Deadwood. Authorities say Otero was masquerading as a military recruiter to help lure his victim.
He was arrested Feb. 12 after school officials and police interceded in his meeting with the alleged victim, a Lead-Deadwood High School student.
Investigators confronted Otero at his motel in Deadwood. Lead and Deadwood police, along with state Division of Criminal Investigation agents, believe that Otero made contact with the alleged victim through the Internet and wireless messaging. Officers seized Otero's computer and cell phone as evidence, according to court files.
Otero faces up to 15 years in prison on each rape count if convicted. The indictment alleges that the rapes occurred Aug. 15 and 16 when the victim was 14 years old, and Feb. 10-12 when the victim was 15.
Otero also faces up to 10 years in prison on each child pornography charge if convicted. Authorities allege he possessed an image of a minor engaging in a prohibited sexual act.
The investigation continues, and more charges may be possible, according to Lawrence County State's Attorney John Fitzgerald.
Otero is being held in Lawrence County Jail. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash.
He is scheduled for a 9 a.m. arraignment in 4th Circuit Court on Thursday, March 26.

i feel srry for him, because he played this game. those are very serious crimes and he will get killed in the jailed for it.
This article makes it look a lot worse than I was led to believe. I am not so sure now. I really felt like maybe he could have been a stand up guy and just got caught up in something and possibly made a mistake.
However, I do find it hard to mistake a 14 yr old for a **** 18 yr old. Say what you want, kids look like kids. If it is as written in this article, may God have mercy on his soul as I won't. If convicted, he will not survive his sentence. Prisoners have lots of fun with Child Molesters. He won't ever be safe. And if it were my daughter, prison would be the preferred alternative to my finding him.
I just don't know what to think about him now.

Yeah, unless he gets off life as he knows it is over. Even hardened criminal killers for some reason have a code of not messing with kids. If they find out you did they will kill you.
I mean really, what does a guy serving life for a double 187 have to lose by shanking a child rapist.......
Best case scenario, is you succesfully defend yourself and kill your would be attacker, and then you get to serve a life sentence in a box.
Either way, you go up for this, you don't come back, unless you manage to ride it out in PC.

I just received a letter from him on Saturday and its weird you messaged me because he asked me to ask you among some others to write to him. I've known Artos for well over 7 years now and he's naive if anything but not about to rape a girl. I have many arguments that could easily snuff all these "allegations" from the news article. And it clearly re-iterates that these are "allegations".
Now... I won't say one way or the other because I don't have cold hard facts. I won't say Juan is 100% innocent but neither is she. She's from a southern state not to mention the us of a in the first place where, in my opinion, the age of consent is far too high to begin with. A 14yr old is perfectly capable of understanding the consequences of their actions and where are they given leeway to work the system the children do.
Some of the most vindictive people I have ever met who are perfectly aware of their actions and the harm their actions cause are 8 yr olds so excuse me.
oh and btw, I'm 22yr old and still get mistaken for a 16 yr old. I've id'd kids in the adult novelty shop I work at who turn out to be 20 and they seriously don't look above 16.

As a former Military Recruiter I will say this: Any one that misrepresents their military service in any way shape or form is has no honor. It's no different then pretending to be a police officer or claiming to be Jesus Christ. It is wrong. There is no defense for that.
If he has served, he should know that it's against regulations to wear his uniform under most conditions if he is no longer in the service. If he is currently in, then he should have the common sense to not to pretend to be a recruiter if he is not. (I get the impression that he is not currently serving because they would have mentioned that.)

I understand your opinion. There are teenagers that post on these forums and I have to make it clear that that many adults out there, especially on the internet, are predators and frauds. They may seem like genuine people but they are not. As a responsible adult I have to point that out.

There is a reason why your not a legal adult until you are 18, or in most cases are not aloud to consume alcohal until the age of 21. They didnt just pull the numbers out of there a$$. I knew artos, we played together with bright back when we formed the nation AC. I am no one to judge him, I just hope he finds peace within himself, and surrender to god and truly just learn from his mistakes and he gets a fair trial. I wish him the best and hope he can someday get a second chance. God Bless.

It would seem this National Guard Private, Recruiter Impersonator, will be facing a Court Marshall. More likely they will just give him a dishonorable discharge and be done with it without wasting time on a trial.
I saw a similar case against a sailor that got 40 years in prison from the state so the military just sent him a dishonorable discharge in the mail. Although I believe the Army has additional charges to the ones that he was convicted of in a civilian court.
Play with fire and you're gonna get burnt, he won't have fun in prison for that crime if it's anything like over here, most inmates seem to have some morals and raping crosses that line alot, especially stat. rape.
The hostility comes from many inmates that have kids and can't be there for them. So when they know of someone doing bad things to kids it angers them because they regret not being able to protect their own kids.
Well, I was reserving judgement till a verdict. A guilty plea, does it for me. I personally want nothing else to do with him nor will I associate with him. Sorry, I don't do pedophiles.
I guess I have to break radio silence on this one because I've known Artos since he was 14, he got me into this game way back in early '02. He's always gotten himself into all kinds of situations, usually not coming out on top, yet he managed to somehow steer himself through it for the most part because there were some people for him to talk to and ask advice from. Its unfortunate that after he joined the military that a lot of us who knew him pretty well were hardly able to talk to him since he wasn't around much after that.
I had heard some things about this situation from both himself directly before things got too involved, and also from his sister and brother in-law, though nothing too specific- just that he was involved with a girl, it was apparently a girlfriend type relationship, and also that she may have been underage (after some digging around was done).
This is truly unfortunate, he was a good friend, but went on the wrong path one too many times. I do thank you for posting that article though LP, myself and some of his other friends have been wondering what ever happened to him. :think::
