After a few months of slacking and falling behind the Nation Wars Times is back up and running. We are going to be changing things up a bit. Special Issues on hot issues will get their own "Mini Issues" throughout the set. It is our plan to keep things current instead of at the end of the set reading topics that are two to three weeks old. So Enjoy your read.

Changes For Next Set

The Legion of Riot's World War
Legion of Riot's [LoR] and Terrorists Training Ground's [TTG]
The past fews day of the October set has been very eventful. The recent war between Legion of Riot's [LoR] and Terrorists Training Ground's [TTG]. Our new editor set out to get the dirty detail on what has sparked much controversy within the community.
Interview with TTG
CommunistCapitalism:
Hi!
Anglewing:
Hi!
CommunistCapitalism:
I'm CommunistCapitalism, Former leader of TTG.
I can tell you a few things about the war.
Anglewing:
Ok. So why did the war start?
CommunistCapitalism:
It was provoked by TTG for 2 reasons, make that 3.
1) Most members here hate LoR.
2) LoR was running away with the set, top 2 players up too far ahead.
3) For fun.
Anglewing:
Lol. So why did most of the members hate LoR?
CommunistCapitalism:
Well, its because alot of us used to fight them in the old days in world-of-war,
basically nation-wars with a few changes under a different name.
Back then, there were thousands of players, not just a 100.So we achieved our goal, I think we destroyed a whole bunch of networth and ruined many of their players’ chances of getting #1.So, mission accomplished.We did actually plan on killing a few people, but unfortunately there was a new change that bombers couldn't AR so we could not actually kill anybody.
Anglewing:
So, now, looking back at the incident, do you feel any sort of regret that almost your whole nation was wiped out for warring them?
CommunistCapitalism:
Nope. Its easy to restart and we weren't going to win anyway, we just didnt want them to win.If you have been keeping track, about a week ago today, LoR dominated the top 10. Now, that is not really the case as SLOB has high ranked members.
Anglewing:
Ok then. So which Nation do you hope will win this set?
CommunistCapitalism:
I do not really care, as long as its not LoR and its not so much as the nation winning, as it is the individual member winning. I dont like seeing LoR members win.
Anglewing:
So, why do you think LoR managed to get so much networth so fast?
CommunistCapitalism:
They have some pretty good members.
If you want, i can help train you as I assume you are new.
Anglewing:
Lol, thanks for offering to help, but currently I am being 'tutored' by PcGluva and Mr. President. They are great teachers.
CommunistCapitalism:
Oh great! Great players to be under, just dont go to the dark side (LoR). Do you have more questions?
Anglewing:
So you targeted the LoR members in the top ten so you could bring them down?
CommunistCapitalism:
Pretty much, by using AAs we can kill their infantry and their ships, drastically lowering their networth.
Anglewing:
So how do you think LoR responded?
CommunistCapitalism:
How i thought they would respond.
By killing us.
It was sort of just like a...
suicide mission see?
Anglewing:
Oh I see. So it was like acting on a vengeance?
CommunistCapitalism:
Sure, thats a good way to put it.
Anglewing:
Ok, do you think LoR holds a grudge against you?
CommunistCapitalism:
I dont think they know who I am most sets, so it doesnt really matter.
I'm sure if i continue down this course of action it could lead to that, but not yet, no.
Any other final questions?
Anglewing:
One last question. After the war, do you still feel vengeful towards LoR or have you satisfied your taste for revenge?
CommunistCapitalism:
I can never take enough revenge out on LoR.
Its not even really revenge, its just that I love punishing them for not having enough ships early on in the set.
Anglewing:
Oh ok. Anything else you want to say?
CommunistCapitalism:
They might find themselves in the top spot for now, but, I will make that change. Mark my words.
By the way, I just think it’s great that you newer players are getting into the game like this.
I am impressed man, keep it up and have a good one.

Interview with LoR
Anglewing:
Hello.
Kanman:
Hi. So you had some questions about the war?
I am Kanman. Leader of LoR I guess.
Anglewing:
Ok I shall start the interview then. Why did the war start?
Kanman:
I guess you would have to ask TTG. They have no reason from this round so I think they just have old grudges from long ago.
Anglewing:
Yes, that is what TTG says.
They say that most of their members hate LoR. Do you have any idea why?
Kanman:
Yeah, because we've kicked their asses many times in the past. Maybe a little jealousy too.
Anglewing:
TTG says that they warred LoR as they did not like LoR and also because LoR was growing too fast. So, how did you manage to grow your nation so fast?
Kanman:
Well, LoR has always had a strong member base. We war a lot and warring takes a lot of cooperation. So we have a lot of people who've played with us in the past and we've given them a good time so they come back. Also, there are others who have admired what we have done in the past and want to be a part of it. So mainly, people have a good time in LoR. It's fun to be the bad guys sometimes.
Anglewing:
Well that sounds good. What was your response to TTG's war against you?
Kanman:
I feel like they were taking advantage of the fact that they were training new players. I suspected they might do something against LoR but I didn't hit them first because of those new players. Also, TTG just wanted to play spoiler because they had no chance to actually beat us in a war.
Anglewing:
Do you think TTG achieved their goal of weakening LoR and bringing LoR's Total Networth down?
Kanman:
Yeah they did. I think we were on track to do really well on the all time lists before they warred us. We are probably still strong enough to finish #1 though.
Anglewing:
TTG says that LoR has/had a low number of ships to defend themselves. Is this true?
Kanman:
Not at all. I can't remember, but I definitely had at least a million more than the top TTG guy before they attacked. It is too early in the round to defend yourself from everything and pretty much, I feel like they wanted anyone but us to win the round as they had no reason to war us unless they wanted to help some friends of theirs.
Anglewing:
Do you hold a grudge against TTG?
Kanman:
I'll remember this if that's what you mean. In the future, I'll have to make sure TTG has some sort of pact with us first, otherwise there may be some fireworks. They can't compete with us netting wise so they can only try to ruin our states.
Anglewing:
How do you think the game has been progressing lately, and do you like it?
Kanman:
I was liking it more before this round. TTG really shouldn't hold grudges like this for stuff that happened so long ago.
Anglewing:
Ok then. Is there anything else you want to say?
Kanman:
Good work on starting the newsletter again and keep it up!
Anglewing:
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!
When I interviewed them both together, CommunistCapitalism said that LoR were ' breakable in terms of ships'. When asked if he would still attack LoR in the future, he said 'I won’t rule it out, nor will I ever rule out killing anybody.' When asked why he chose to attack LoR, he simply said 'I don’t hate anybody, it’s just that I enjoy certain things more when they happen to certain people.' When Communist Capitalism later revealed that he had a plan, Kanman said 'that plan better include a peace pact with LoR, or it won't get off the ground.' Communist Capitalism retorted to that by saying 'I would never make a peace pact with LoR, considering LoR has broken them in the past while I was in Dak.'
[LoR] vs. [SLOB]
For those of you who didn't notice, [LoR] and [SLOB] warred this set.
Maggio [SLOB] was kind enough to share all the info he has about the subject:
[TTG] (not -Z- but the leader) asked me to go to war with them against [LoR] early in the set. I declined and told them we had a peace treaty with [LoR] this set, and that we would keep our word.
I wasn't even paying attention after that. From what I saw, [TTG] hit [LoR] and failed miserably. I noticed that Mr.P offered shelter to [TTG]-states and assumed he worked something out with Pron on that one.
The other day, I woke up, made my coffee and checked NW. Kanmna sent me a pm asking why -Z- was in my nation. I looked and -Z- was indeed in my nation. I wanted to ask Max and Anton if they'd let him in. I sent them both a pm and went off to work.
When I got back home, Max and Anton had replied. It was Anton who'd let him in. I told Anton I had to boot him because it wasn't right and way too risky. I booted -Z-, telling him I'm sorry, but I couldn't risk my members over having him around. He was a bit pissed because I didn't pm him to warn him I was going to boot him. I told him I was sorry, and I guess I should've warned him, but I had to get him out ASAP.
I heard nothing more of it, until I logged on one morning and saw that [LoR] had declared while I was asleep, and that they'd killed Anton, me and I think someone else.
I really was wiping the slate clean. I thought we had some pretty good FA going, and there were some small problems last set, and this set, that Kanman and I quickly squashed. So there was good communication going. I just couldn't believe that after months and months of warring, and then finally coming to some good agreements and communication that this had happened.
If Kanman had come to me and insisted that Anton not be able to finish on top for letting -Z- in, then I would've allowed a pretty good retal. He did let -Z- in and he knew what he was doing when he did it. It was a risk, and he should've been retalled for it. Most likely, I wouldn't have allowed death, but certainly a good retal ensuring he wouldn't finish on top. It was stupid on his part, and I hand't been informed of it.
So, according to Maggio, he did everything possible to prevent any conflict between [SLOB] and [LoR], and all of a sudden [LoR] declared, thereby breaking a peace treaty.
The Cool Down
As Told by Mr. President
Soon after LoR invaded the nation SLOB, the United States felt they could have gone to war alone against LoR, but seeing as the USA is a huge advocate of the United Nations, it went to the UN and asked which nations would come to the aid of the nation SLOB by either declaring sanctions and or going to war. 5 of the 8 UN nations agreed. (the other 3 did not vote)
Seeing USA was the largest of the 5, we began with declaring Sanctions against LoR. Our hope was that would be enough to get them to back down and withdraw from the war with SLOB, but as days passed, it was clear this wasn't going to happen. Meanwhile, SLOB and LoR were negotiating a peace offer, but SLOB was hesitant. Also, SLOB insisted that 2 of the LoR states (top states) deleted. If they agreed to this, then SLOB would agree to peace.
After days of failed negotiations USA and other United Nation members prepared to enter the war. Our members were on and stocked with full turns and full military units needed. Literally as i was clicking onto the foreign relations tab, Maggio sent me an IM asking me to join a conversation between LoR and SLOB leaders. Last minute negotiations took place. An offer was put on the table stating that Pron (the top state) deletes and LoR agrees to not war either USA or SLOB for the remainder of the set and also agrees to increase it's FA work with other nations. Negotations then stalled a little and a 30 second time frame was set before USA walked away from the negotiation table and began it's invasion. At the last possible split second, LoR agreed to the terms and conditions..
During this process, another UN member the nation SF also began war preparations against LoR. If things had moved forward, there were other nations that were also going to delcare war preparations against LoR.
For many sets LoR has pretty much ruled the world as they vastly out numbered all the other nations so they were never greeted with any resistance. But now with the power of the UN smaller nations now have hope and as these nations group and fight as one, single ruling nations will now become a thing of the past.. This set was the opening glimps at just how powerful the UN will become.
Mr. President Interview
1. How do you think NW has progressed since WoW?
I think NW has progressed very well since WoW. I'm still concerned over the member count but overall feature wise I think we have come a long way in getting the game a little more modern. I really like the new look and feel of the game and so far the feedback has been very positive. We have a long journey ahead of us and a lot of hard work. Getting and keeping members is no easy task. I never realized how hard it is to actually keep a online game up and running while also trying to make it grow. In the beginning of NW a lot of mistakes were made and the direction the game was headed in was not good. But that has turned around and and we have learned from those mistakes. And the direction we are headed in now is a good one. Our new member count is up and the percentage of them staying is at an all time high. Slowly but surely we are making progress.
2. How do you think the community has changed and do you like it?
I honestly don't think the community as a whole has changed all that much. The only change is it's a lot smaller then when WoW was up and running so with it being smaller, things are more noticeable. Little things in the past are now major things. Once we have more members things will balance back out again.
3. What do you think of the recent LoR-TTG/SLOB saga?
As an Admin i have no comment. As a leader of USA, I think it was inevitable. Last set when SLOB hit LoR I knew that no matter what, LoR would seek revenge. I think they took a small issue and blew it up to a big reason so they could have a valid reason to war SLOB. Not that any nation really needs a reason, but it's always better if you don't have the whole community nations against you.
4. How do you think this will affect future sets?
I think this set will be a defining set. I think you will see nations FINALLY standing as one and saying we will no longer allow one nation to control the game. This is where the UN feature comes in and why I really like it.
5. What do you think LoR has in mind?
LoR is watching there control of nations slowly slipping away so they will have to regroup and form another way to achieve global control. I have always stated that LoR is a vital asset to the game. I know many dislike there ways, but without them being who they are, the game would be less enjoyable... Honestly I think we need a few more nations just like LoR. As only having one nation terrorizing the many others is unbalanced. It gets old warring the same nation all the time.
6. Do you have any advice for LoR or anyone else who is affected by these wars?
I have spoken enough about LoR. I don't want to talk about them too much cause then they will feel special..
My advice to other nations is, communication! Talk with your members, train them and reach out to other nations and talk with them. Be a part of the UN and learn how to use it to your advantage. Constantly remind your members to work hard and recruit new members to there nation and the game. I can't begin to describe how much more enjoyable this game is to play when we have tons of members. If you think things are fun now with the amount of members we have now, add in around 1k more.. It is a blast! I really miss the old days in WoW where things were very busy and hectic and you were making deals left and right.. You were warring, using diplomacy, backing out of deals, picking sides, netting contest and getting the top spot was very hard and when you got it, you earned it!
One last thing to remember is, this is just a game. Things can get pretty heated but at the end of the day it is just a game....
