Thread: 1 billion dollars

    Default 1 billion dollars

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny. The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending

    YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

    one of it's releases.

    A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
    B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
    C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
    living in the Stone Age.

    D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
    E.
A billion dollars ago was only
    8 hours and 20 minutes,
    at the rate our government
    is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

    Louisiana Senator,
    Mary Landrieu (D)
    is presently askingCongressfor
    250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
    what does it mean?
    A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
    (every man, woman, and child)
    you each get $516,528.
    B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets
    $1,329,787.
    C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
    your family gets $2,066,012.

Fun fact 1: In German "Billion" means a trillion in English, so a german billion got 3 more 0s

Fun fact 2: Germany has the worlds most complicated tax law.
It contains 118 laws, 185 forms, 418 exceptions and 96,000 regulations (just one comment to taxation covers 2,671 pages). Germany has nearly 100,000 instructions for the administration only referring to taxation (more than 28,000 pages).
60% percent of the literature on taxation in the world supposedly refers to the German tax system.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law', because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

    Post Define 1 billion.

It is interesting about the German billion.

The British definition of a billion used to be a million million ie.
    1000000000000
Unfortunately we capitulated and changed it to the American definition, which is a thousand million.
    1000000000
I assume that the Germans still use the first one and good on 'em I say. I much prefer it. You call 100000000 a hundred million so why not call 1000000000 a thousand million?
    You were victorious

Your forces captured 4.180 land, 2.088 buildings and destroyed $3, 0 food and 214 science.
You lost 1.155.670 Infantry and 124.217 Ships.
Your Nation lost 577.835 Infantry and 62.109 Ships.
Your enemy lost 542.399 Infantry, 1.670 Tanks and 751.695 Ships.

    This round has ended!
    Your final rank was 2.
