The weary soldier
As the sun set slowly in the west and the time for the soldiers had come, you could see in their war weary eyes that the battle had taken its horrible toll. They walked in silence, eyes open but not seeing. They had that 1000 mile stare. The stare that told of the hardship each had faced. The horror each had witnessed, the horror they had caused. Each knew in his own heart that there would come a time that each of the deaths would have to be paid for and paid with their souls. When the time came for atonement would each be ready, would each have in his heart the rapture of a high resolve? Would each have his own justification for the mayhem he had caused? At the end is in sight, this long trek from there to where we are. All must answer for themselves in their own way the same burning question – Was it really worth it? You d amn right it was!
