Which countries out of the major alliances (Allies and Axis) performed the worst in WW2, relative to their power?

Allies = France

Outnumbered Germany and had the benefit of the Maginot Line, yet were utterly outmanouvered by the Wehrmacht in 1940 with catastrophic results. outdone only by:

Axis = Italy

Had to be bailed out twice by Germany, against Britain and more shockingly, Greece and opened up a front that diverted critical resources from the East, and also allowing a second allied invasion route later in the war.

Italy specially, just because Germany wanted someone to talk , but Italy really did nothing, and they had good military

Its just mussolini was so stupid in military decitions

as for France, well they had ideas that were obsolet, they didnt updated in anything, not that England was so updated, but they had time to prepare due to be isolated in an island. Any nation in that day would had fallen to Germany if invaded in 1940, France had the bad luck to be one side

Not technically true, France actually (especially combined with Britain) a more powerful army than Germany. Had they focused their forces properly, they could well have repulsed the German assault (the main mistake being that they didn't think tanks could go through the Ardennes forest).

Believe it or not the average French tank was more powerful than the average German one in 1940, and they had more.

That is true except for one crucial thing, microphones to communicate with other tanks to out maneuver the enemy.

Well, It isn't gonna hurt for a test? I'm sure they had enough time, If one tank makes it through then probably the others can too. But if you were in a position of Commander and planning out the strategy, I think that France made a reasonable move to not let the Armored Vehicles move through. Yet, They were wrong but were Reasonable.
