Not technically true, France actually (especially combined with Britain) a more powerful army than Germany. Had they focused their forces properly, they could well have repulsed the German assault (the main mistake being that they didn't think tanks could go through the Ardennes forest).
Believe it or not the average French tank was more powerful than the average German one in 1940, and they had more.
That is true except for one crucial thing, microphones to communicate with other tanks to out maneuver the enemy.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things.
The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
