I would agree with you about killing new players but lor did reach out and warnings were ignored. So at some point you have to defend your nation.

True, but IMO:

1. You should be extra-lenient with noobs.
2. If they still persist, only the worst offenders should have been killed or crippled. Killing the whole tag was excessive and detrimental to the game in the long run.

No, I mean you let them stay in the tag, and kill the non-innocent states "Join us or die" is not "efforts to spare innocent players" in any reasonable estimation. You started a war when a retal would have sufficed.

A few RO states are just being Dbags about it since they got wiped out and are still pissy about it. They wouldnt say anything positive about LOR in the first place, so I guess their complaining is to be expected.
