White perch is a helluva nice table fare. Glad you had some good luck. I am now getting my camp ready for hunting season, lots of bush hogging, disking and planting. Repairing blinds and the like. Fishing on the back burner for now till I get all that finished up.

Its my second passion after fishing. And since fishing is impossible in close range and I basically live in a forest so I pretty much 2-3 times a week go and pick them. I have already supplied my and my wifes families, not to mention that we ****ing need a bigger freezer..

I like the type where you catch things..so as long as I do not sit there for hours waiting I liek it hehe )

Been Salmon fishing in North Russia, was very cool...but no catch! (

Mushroom picking is awsome!! I even going to go in UK this year to pick some, just hope they are not over polluted!

Last thrus, fri, sat, sun, and mon I went to OCEAN CITY, MD and did some surf fishing. I picked up an old Penn Spinfisher 6500, Penn 10' M/H Big Game Surf Rod, and used 30lb power pro braid. Ended up with 7 small sand sharks, and two other fish I have not been able to identify, but look like croaker/spot.

70-75 degrees, with 10-15 mph wind made for perfect fishing conditions (one day was too windy)

it was EXTREMELY LAZY fishing as I got to sleep in every day and fished from 10-1, but since it was producing fish i didnt bother going earlier, even though I should have.

have you ever fished marlin/swordfish? seems like those and tuna are like no1 prize for living near the ocean.

had to forego sat for my son's football game, but I hit up my local river on sunday morning. weather was pretty much PERFECT, low 70s slight breeze. I had the place to myself less a dog walker or two. HEAVY rains the night before, and this was a little runoff river that the areas streams ran into so there was lots of fresh water. The tide was up and I was waiting for it to start to run. I could hear Pickerel hitting minnows in the reeds.

I had some blood worms left over from the ocean trip so I needed to use them. I ran two rods. one with a bottom feeder fish finder with a small circle hook to catch bait fish (spot, white perch etc..) My second rod was set up with a 7/0 circle hook for cut bait.

I got luck right way with a small spot fish which I quickly live lined with a 6/0 circle hook an bobber. Something grabbed the spot in the first few minutes it was out there, and I started reeling in my catch only to find that my spot fish has been bitten in half (pickerel). OH WELL I cut the head off and sent it back out with a bottom fish finder (inline weight with a 2' leader) and let that sit out there a while. Had a good ol bell clipped to my rod. something started tugging! I reeled a pretty big hull considering i was on light tackle.

It was a 23' blue channel catfish which is a decent size given this river.

    I kept on fishin

the tide started running and i caught a few small white perch. I used one of them for cut bait and set up my heavier rod once again. about 30 min later i was able to pull in another catfish, but this time 16+"

all in all it was a good day. didnt get up too early and got back by lunch time. (my stomach was killing me that morning, so I stayed put at this one location)
